Kathy was lucky enough to go on residency with Make / Works in 2013 to explore Scottish Industry and the Outer Hebrides. She hoped that the journey would help her to understand the barriers which manufacturers face in terms of their environmental impact, particularly those who are located rurally. In the time Kathy could only just take a peak into this world and these reflections are still on going with no concrete output as yet.
The adventure through the landscape also invited her to respond. Studio RoRo‘s beautiful photography shows the collection of traditional dye plants that Kathy came across on her way. She then used these to collate colours from the landscape. You can hear about the experience on this podcast:

WANDERING FOUND THE WILDERNESS
Silent thoughts. Clarity.
Beauty beyond comparison.
Open air open water open sky
open land
O N E
Last convulsions echo in the distance, to hear
these crashing waves,
soft waves,
calm waves.
Waves a thousand years old, and older.
Waves that bathe the emerald rocks,
waves that take us off…
To another vision
T h e E a r t h w e l i v e o n
is
much more than it it seems.
or rather,
much more than we,
allow ourselves to see.
–
We respond with gentle blinkers
until we turn them off…
Where does it go when it leaves your hand – to – mouth –
to where?
Did you forget to ask?
or did you ask and hide.
We close our eyes, palm to palm and, hope.
Hope and hope and hope .
And act upon this hope – we find comfort.
We can continue on…
Whichever direction seems like,
it might yield something.
Something more intuitive
less
intrusive.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
A soul is whole
once again, as if
deep roots are quenched in thirst.
Soil takes shape
providing the ground we tread our tired feet.
These moonscapes will speak.
