Kathy has a degree in Textile Design and is gently learning from Permaculture Design. She describes her creative practice as ‘in exploration of ecocentric approaches’ and therefore continually asks herself; how can a care for ecology and the natural environment become the epicentre of her activity? This adventure takes her through many ways of being as an artist, designer, and facilitator: which are all rooted by a desire to contribute to a more beautiful life sustaining world.

Recently this desire has taken a number of forms; Colour-Ecology (2013) – producing slow textiles with botanical dyes; ARC (2014/15) – The Glasgow School of Art’s first sustainability engagement project funded by the Climate Challenge Fund; The Lifecycle of Stuff (2015) through Creative Carbon Scotland – exploring the circular economy and, most recently; Garden Lane (2016) – a participatory arts and design project that helped community members in Dunbar to feed their ideas into The Ridge’s community garden development and, delivered through North Light Art’s

Through the various capacities in which she works, she hopes to nurture discussion of a lower-impact future, the necessary consciousness shifts needed in order for this to take place and, the practical tools to enable these to happen. These values most often manifest via public engagement and participatory arts and design activities.

She is self-employed and available for workshop delivery, project design or implementation and on a commission basis. The projects she is most excited by are those which explore the edge between arts and sustainability with her key interests being low-impact creative practices, land and people based design, slow textiles and materials experimentation.
